Schwarzwälder Freilichtmuseum Vogtsbauernhof – Open Air Museum

Experience and discover over 400 years of Black Forest

The museum was established nearly 50 years ago as an architectual museum of the Black Forest. Today the Freilichtmuseum Vogtsbauernhof in Gutach makes it possible to experience with all senses how living, life and work had been in the Black Forest. Altogether there are six Black Forest farms with furnishings and fittings from the 16th to the 19th century, a day laborer house and 15 outbuildings with mills, saws, chapel and storage.

But who expects only old houses at the Freilichtmuseum Vogtsbauernhof will be really amazed: In the stable there are domestic animals of old breeds, sheep and goats are out to grass and in the smoke kitchens you can smell the last fire. The comprehensive and carefully compiled event offers with daily actions ensure an eventful museum visit during the whole season: Cooking in the smoke kitchen, daily mill demonstrations, a museum workshop for families and many exciting event highlights from the traditional costumes day to the fall festival and the butchering country feast.

The open air museum can be reached through the beautiful Elztal from our hotel in 50 min by car.
