Kaiserstuhl

Sun Deck between Black Forest and Rhine

The Kaiserstuhl rises between the big neighbours Black Forest and Vosges.

According to tradition this mountain was named after Emperor Otto III who has held a day of hearing in this region.

Today the landscape of the Kaiserstuhl is characterized by the countless grapevines that produce a superb wine in this sunny region. Provably this region has the most sunshine hours and the warmest climate of all German wine-growing areas. This is the reason why about a third of the Baden wine is growing here.

You can satisfy yourself of this in the vintners‘ cooperatives and taverns selling homegrown wine which you will find in the small, picturesque villages at a rest from your cycling or hiking tour.
